The Satgaon Region

Satgaon, an autonomous district in Assam near Nagaland, is a largely agricultural region. Oranges and potatoes join the traditional jute, sugarcane and cotton as major crops, while silkworm, lumber and oil production add to the region’s growing economy.

But what draws visitors to Satgaon is an array of tourist sites, including the Koka waterfalls, a botanical garden, an educational theme park and a host of other attractions. Despite its tourism and development, most of Satgaon’s 800,000 people still make their living off the land, and still face the challenges of floods, droughts and other unpredictable weather.
